Field Trip in 2024 Winter
OBJECTIVE.

On 25-26 December 2024, thirty-five vibrant MPMA students from Cambodia, Bangladesh, Vietnam, the Philippines, the Kyrgyz Republic, China, Nepal, Ghana and Indonesia embarked on an exciting exploration of Asahikawa, Hokkaido.
Hokkaido is known as a distinctive region in Japan not only due to its harsh natural conditions but also because of its history, including the culture of the Ainu people and the development by pioneering groups. The city of Asahikawa, which we visited this time, has particularly developed as a tourist destination in recent years.
On the first day the students visited the Hokuchin Memorial Museum in order to explore how this area played the important role in the development of modern history. Some students seemed fully enjoyed the valuable showcase after watching the anime Golden Kamuy.
Next destination was Asahiyama Zoo, which is known as a unique exhibition of animals. Since Asahiyama zoo aims to create an environment where animals can exhibit their natural abilities and behaviors, the reputation attracts visitors, making it one of the leading zoos in the country, with a constant stream of people coming from both domestic and international locations.
After staying in a cozy Onsen (hot spring) Hotel in Biei, next morning we enjoyed the snow trekking on the endless snow field of this area. For some students it was totally the first experience even touching the snow.
The students likely learned that, in order to truly understand the charm of a place, it is important to experience it firsthand, rather than relying on books or the internet. Moreover, having companions to share the experience with must have made it an unforgettable one!
