Guidance in Preparing a Master’s Thesis at the Library 2020

OBJECTIVE.

As an annual event, the Rikkyo library and MPMA program jointly held the following non-credit special seminar in October 2020 which aims to give the 1st year students the guidance for preparing a Master’s thesis writing.
To achieve the infection prevention measures, all sessions were delivered online. We believe that students can commit to these workshops safely.
The sessions’ details are as follows.


Session 1

Title: The first step for thesis writing: Role of literature survey: Data-driven approach (Lecture)
and Set up the access to library online database (Workshop)
Presenter: Prof. Mitsuhiko KATAOKA
Target audience:
MPMA students who are not familiar with
- what the academic paper is.
- what the components of the masters' thesis are
- how important your data is
- how to find a research topic through literature survey
- how to access "EBSCOhost" from their off-campus PC

Session 2

Title: How to find journal article through online (Workshop)
Presenter: RIKKYO Librarian
Target audience:
MPMA students who are not familiar with
- how to search the academic journal online
- how to use the search engine for academic literature in social science, EBSCOHost

Session 3

Title: How to manage the list of your references through RefWorks (Workshop)
Presenter: RIKKYO Librarian
Target audience:
MPMA students who are not familiar with
- how to use RefWorks, an online reference management tool
